Semax How To Use It For Maximum Focus

2026-03-29 · 17:42 · 4 min read

Semax is one of the few peptides actually built for brain health and cognitive function. I use it when I need an edge for content creation or deep work. Here's everything you should know about how it works, how to dose it, and what to stack it with.

Hormones first, nootropics second

Before I get into Semax, I have to say this. A lot of people grab nootropic peptides to fix what's actually a hormone problem.

I did the same thing. Before I got hormonally optimized, I leaned hard on caffeine and other nootropics just to feel like my brain was working. Once I got my testosterone dialed in, my cognitive function jumped massively. I felt like my IQ went up 10 to 20 points.

So if you're a man or woman who isn't hormonally optimized, look at that first. Then use peptides like Semax to get the extra edge on top.

What Semax actually is

Semax is a synthetic analog of a fragment of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone). It's classified as a nootropic, which means it can improve cognitive function, memory, creativity, and motivation in healthy individuals.

Keyword there is healthy. This isn't something to mask deeper problems with.

It was developed in Russia in the 1980s (take that for what you will) and was originally aimed at treating stroke, head injuries, and cognitive disorders. As someone who played football for years, I'm always looking for things to help with neuroinflammation and the long-term effects of head trauma. Semax is on that list.

How it works

Semax modulates BDNF expression. BDNF stands for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which biohackers like to call Miracle-Gro for the brain.

It also influences serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. That's important. Most psychiatric meds, especially SSRIs, only target one neurotransmitter. Semax affects all three of the main ones, which is closer to what we actually want.

A few other things it does:

  • Acts as an anti-inflammatory specifically for the brain
  • Increases synaptic plasticity and neuronal growth
  • Has antioxidant properties
  • Affects the TrkB receptor linked to cognition
  • Modulates cortisol and stress response

That last one matters. Unlike caffeine or racetams, Semax helps you focus without spiking cortisol or wiring you out.

The benefits

  • Enhanced memory, focus, and learning
  • Neuroprotection against oxidative stress
  • Better stress management
  • Mood elevation, may reduce depression symptoms
  • Improved attention and processing speed
  • Mental clarity
  • Possible help with TBI, concussion, and stroke recovery
  • Potentially useful for ADHD symptoms

What I like about it is the focus you get without feeling like you have ADHD. Things like Adderall or Modafinil can almost turn you into ADHD if you don't already have it. Semax keeps you locked in without making you wired or scattered.

Side effects

Generally pretty mild, but a little more common than something like BPC-157.

  • Mild irritation at injection site
  • Headaches with initial use
  • Some people report dizziness or nausea
  • Possible overstimulation or anxiety in sensitive individuals

If you're sensitive to stimulants, start low. And if you're on SSRIs or other psychiatric meds, be careful since this affects neurotransmitter balance. Talk to your doctor.

Hydration matters too. I think Semax increases blood flow and may deplete minerals, which can cause headaches. Drink water.

Dosing

Intranasal: 750 to 1000 mcg once a day. This is the most popular route, mostly because people don't want to inject.

Subcutaneous: 100 to 300 mcg once a day. Start at 100 and titrate up based on how you feel. I wouldn't go over 300. That's where the headaches and nausea start showing up for most people.

I prefer sub-q first thing in the morning. Easy and effective.

Quick reconstitution math. If you have a 5 mg vial and add 2 mL of bacteriostatic water, you get 2.5 mg per mL. That means 5 units on an insulin syringe is 125 mcg, and 10 units is 250 mcg.

For intranasal, just figure out how much volume comes out per pump and reconstitute so a 750 mcg dose matches that pump volume.

What to stack with Semax

Selank. The most popular pairing. Semax turns your brain into a supercomputer. Selank takes the edge off anxiety. Together you get calm, focused, driven energy.

Alpha-GPC. I take this regularly, especially on fasting days.

Noopept. Solid addition to a nootropic stack.

Lion's mane mushroom. I take this every day. Make sure you get 100% lion's mane extract, not the stuff grown on oats where you end up with 80% oat and 20% mushroom. I use Real Mushrooms (no affiliate). The difference is huge.

Omega-3s. Everyone should be taking these. Period.

Bacopa monnieri. Memory and learning support.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine. My favorite oral form of carnitine. Energy and cognitive function.

Ginkgo biloba. Blood flow and cognitive health.

Stack those alongside hormonal optimization and you'll feel amazing. Most can be taken orally. Only Semax and Noopept need injection or intranasal.

My take

Semax is one of the few peptides actually built for the brain, and it does what it claims without the crash you get from stimulants. I don't run it every day, but when I need extra horsepower for content or deep thinking, it works.

Get your hormones right first. Then use Semax as the edge on top, not the foundation. Start at 100 mcg sub-q, drink water, and see how you respond.

Hey everybody, this is Hunter Williams. I hope you are doing amazing wherever you're at in the world. Today's video is going to be everything you must know about C-Max or Cimax, however you pronounce it. Now, before I get into the meat and potatoes of this, I would be remiss not to remind you that cognitive function is one of those things that involves

every area of our body. So I always tell people, a lot of times I think people grab at nootropics and noatropic peptides in order to fix a hormonal deficiency that they may have. Now, don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of noootropic and neotrophic peptide. However, when I was not hormonally optimized. That was one of those things that I clad, you know, latched onto and like stimulants like caffeine, like overusing caffeine or other nootropics in order to try to get some brain power out of me. And when I got hormonal optimized through hormone therapy and then using peptides and everything else.

My cognitive function vastly improved and I didn't have to rely on so many stimulants and different things in order to just get like some semblance of brain function out of myself. So I want to preface that with saying, if you're not hormonally optimized, whether you are a man or woman, please look into that first before you go willy nilly and just to the hilt with nootropic peptides. But that being said, we can use these nooterpic peptide to really optimize cognitive and get that extra boost that we may need. If you're someone like me that's an entrepreneur, or even if you are not an entrepreneurial and you in a very cognitively demanding job,

which most of the job now are pretty information intense and pretty, you know, require a lot of bandwidth from the brain. These nootropic peptides can be great. If look at humans even a hundred years ago, They did not process the information and make the amount of decisions on a daily basis that humans do now. And that's just the reality of the work world and the world that we live in. We're going to have to process data, we're gonna have go through information, everything. That's great, I love doing that so we can use these performance enhancing chemicals in order to do so. So today, what I'm going do is tell you everything you should know about how to use CMAX and Selenq.

And if you want a reference guide on all things peptides, don't forget you can download the peptide cheat sheet and sign up for my email list and get that below. And I don' t spam the email or anything like that. I just send out informational videos, I send updates when I release new material and new content. So no need to fear and then if you want to download that and unsubscribe right away Definitely do that. So all the other links down to my like courses groups and everything will be in description below So don't forget that but without further ado Let's jump into the content today and talk about how you can use C max to optimize cognitive function All right, this is going to be everything you should know about

CMAX and how to use it. So basically, C-MAx is a synthetic analog of a fragment of adrenocortic tropic hormone, otherwise known as ACTH, and is considered nootropic, which is an agent that potentially improves cognitive function, memory, creativity, or motivation in healthy individuals. Keyword healthy. This is not one of those things we want to mask. any sort of problems with. However, it could be one of those things in the long run that helps stave off inflammation and different sort-of neurodegenerative diseases that may cause our brain to deteriorate as we age.

So let's get into it. Where did CMEX come from? As with most great things, the peptides world it was developed in Russia during the 1980s take for that which you will wink wink but is derived from a fragment of this ACTH hormone it is initially aimed to treat stroke head injuries and cognitive disorders now as I talk about all the time I played football for many number of years so I'm always looking for things to help with neuroinflammation or anything like that, just with my past history with traumatic brain injury through football. And I don't want to say that like as a victim or something like.

I always say to people, if someone gave me a piece of paper today, I would sign up and play football today. Still knowing everything I know about concussions, that's how much I love football, but that being said, i'm always looking for some of these agents that I could potentially stave off some the later term cognitive effects that come from having lots of head trauma through my life. But basically, it's used to just expand to cognitive enhancement and stress management as well, and it is considered a neutropic peptide, so part of early research into neurogenic and neurorestorative properties.

And this is one that has been used in a medical context, but then also non-medical context. You know, more of like the performance enhancement world. which you guys are here to learn. And this is one of the few peptides with a focus on cognitive health. So obviously the cognition is kind of like a downstream side effect of a lot of these peptide because of what they do for inflammation. But Solanke along with another one that I'm going to make a video about that should be published, you know, very soon, if not the time of this video that you're watching it is called Solank that. You can combine, which I want to talk about later. But basically this is one of the few peptides that actually is targeted towards brain health and cognitive function.

So what is the mechanism of action? So basically CMAX modulates BDNF expression and sensitivity. And for those of you who have never heard of that, that stands for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which as many of biohackers like to say, it's like Miracle-Guru for the brain. CMAX also influences serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine levels. Now, what I always like to talk about is all of the crazy psychiatric medication that is out there, namely SSRIs that are used to numb and dumb down,

if you want my honest opinion, the population. But when we look at neurotransmitter production and neurotranmitters signaling, we want to look all those. So serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. And like I've talked about with another quote unquote peptide, even though it's not technically a peptides, tesofensine, that's going to affect all three of those instead of just one, which is what we wanted to do because those are like the three main, not all, but the main neurotrasmiters. But basically it also works to enhance cognitive function and neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to change and learn new things.

It also increases neuro protection through anti-inflammatory effects. So if you could think of like a anti inflammatory specifically for the brain C max does that it also alters the expression of immune system genes, which is pretty powerful and it modulates stress responses at a hormonal level Primarily through cortisol. Also, that's going to be one of those things like not only does this help us focus but it's not going To like jack up our cortisol or anything like that, like a lot of different stimulants or quote unquote nootropics like racetams. I don't know if racitams specifically jack up cortical, but cortisol, I just don' like them in practice.

It affects the TRKB receptor, which is linked to cognitive processes. it also may increase synaptic plasticity and neuronal growth. So that's basically like our synapses are like the linkages between brain cells. so it's going to increase the ability of those to fire and wire together. It's also thought again to have antioxidant properties which is very important in light of all the oxidative stress that we have in the world today. And then it could adjust the balance of neurotransmitters that I mentioned before which aid in mood regulation. So again, when you look at things like SSRIs or some of these medications that are thought to cure a chemical imbalance in When we look at those,

we want to like balance them and not like jack one up more so than the other. And that's where something like CMAX because of the way it works, because it's like antioxidative properties, Because of all those things of reduction inflammation and the signaling of BDNF is going to help enhance all that. So I don't think he's as strong as something I could test with benzene, but again, it worked very similar to do that so now let's look Some of the benefits, so basically enhances memory focus and learning. So this is one, if you are looking to up your intelligence, again, look to hormonal optimization first, because I will tell you without a shadow of a doubt,

when I got my testosterone optimized, I felt like my IQ went up 10 to 20 points as men and women usually do when their testosterone gets optimized. Like we talked about, it offers neuro protective effects against oxidative stress, reduces stress and improves stress management. It elevates mood and may reduce symptoms of depression. So this is going to be one that you, if you're thinking about it, you going be geared more towards like optimizing brain horsepower, but in doing so it's going help reduce the symptoms depression, which is a nice downstream side effect. It's also going to improve cognitive performance in healthy individuals.

It may assist in recovery from brain injuries and strokes. So this can be another one of those if you have like TBI concussions, or even things like strokes that this is going To help not potentially cure, but definitely help. I could improve attention processing and speed, which is one thing I am always looking to do. Sometimes my brain as I have been Criticized in the comments before moves too fast and people tell me to slow down And I'm not like on stimulants or anything like that I just feel really good and you know, I've always kind of been like since I was a child I even remember when we were doing like our times tables

in school We would have like competitions where like you would go against other people to see who could do the times table the fastest and I Was always like really just because I competitive like always liked the fastest one to do that But something like C max could definitely help improve the attention processing speed It promotes mental clarity and thought processing. So I think it's something that we can all use in light of all the inflammation that We have in the world today Supports overall brain health and function and potentially useful in managing ADHD symptoms So kind of think about this is like it improves focus but it doesn't give you like 80 D or 80 HD because

I Think a lot of things like Maybe like I'm a Daphnil or definitely like an Adderall, it almost turns you into ADHD, which I know is weird because I give that to people with ADHD to help them with their symptoms. But if you don't have ADD, those amphetamines can kind of make you like that. Whereas this like helps you focus without getting too like wired or all over the place. Which I think is something to be very conscious of when you're using any like, you know, mind altering type of peptide or drug. Um, now let's look at side effects. So side-effects are usually pretty mild with this, but there are like more than maybe just your like average BPC or something.

Um so as with all peptides, there's a potential for mild irritation in the administration type. There's the potential of headaches with initial use. And some people report dizziness and nausea. I've never had that but you could potentially get overstimulated or anxiety and sensitive individuals So depending on how sensitive you are to stimulants, I definitely seen this a lot of people I coached It could be too much. So just make sure when you're we're gonna talk about the dosing you can start start low and go slow But it's generally well tolerated long-term safety prowls obviously still under research and I'll just say with anything that deals with the brain and you've talked about neurotransmitters and everything

Just be careful of what you're taking. You know, it's not like a BPC. We're talking about like affecting neurotransmitter balance. So if you are on an SSRI, if your on a bunch of different psychiatric medications, just be carefull with these. I'm not saying it is necessarily going to do any harm to you. Just, be, careful. And again, just like make sure if you have any sort of like psychiatric physicians like consult with your doctor. But for the most part, you know, side effects are pretty mild and just make you're adequately hydrated. I think with these like they're potentially like, this is my own theory.

This is like increasing blood for And I think sometimes I can cause dehydration. I don't know if it's like a mineral retention thing or a Mineral Use thing, or whatever, mineral depletion, whatever you want to call it. But I definitely think that's something that happens, which can lead to the headaches. So just make sure you're definitely hydrating, as you should all the time be doing anyway. Now, everybody's favorite part of the dosage. So if you take intranasally, so this is a very, very popular peptide to take intra nasally. But I don't like snorting things up my nose, just saying.

If you do intra-nasally you can do 750 to 1000 micrograms once a day if taken intra nasal, but if your like me and you just like to do subcutaneous injections because they're so easy and they are so effective, You're going to want to start at 100 to 300 micrograms once a day. I would always say start a 100 and then kind of titrate from there based on how you feel. And then, you know, as you would do gradually increase, I wouldn't really go over 300 to each their own, but I'm just saying for me personally, my brain already kind functions pretty fast anyway.

So like anything over three hundred is usually just too much. and I think that's where you start to see more of the side effects of a headache and nausea and everything. But again, this is one of those like some people, you know, like Jay just doesn't respond to the nootropic peptides very well. So some, people won't get a great response. Mine's like, okay. Like I feel good on them. They're not like anything. That's a world changer. But nasal administration is the most common method. I think that's just because people just don't like to inject stuff. This is definitely one you can take intranasally if you're like definitely afraid of injections. You don' have to injection. you could take intra nasally, but I just like too inject it once a day.

And that would be first thing in the morning. I would have to look and see I think the vials are usually like five milligrams so little secret in on you. If it's five milligrams and I want to inject 100 micrograms, what I'm going to do? So I going put two milliliters of water in a five milliliter vial. It is now 2.5 milligrams per milliliiter. So if I 250 micro grams, that's going be 10 units. And if want a hundred micrograms, and it is going a little less than half of that. That's gonna be five units, so like 125 micro-gram would be 5 units after I put 2 milliters water.

I just did public math. There you go. You're welcome. Hopefully it was right. That's typically what I would do. Again, use the peptide calculator or download the Peptide Cheat Sheet if you want step-by-step reference to all those. But that's what would I do just for a dosing. So very, very easy to do, and again, my recommendation is to sub-q, but again if want to this intranasally. When you're doing intrasal, just do your math right as far as the reconstitution goes, then just know how much of a pump is coming out of the intransal sprayer. So if you have like a 0.1 milliliter pump out of the sprayer, which would just be 10 units or 0,1 cc or ml, just reconstitute so that a 750 microgram dose

is 0.,1 ml if that makes sense. So I can't really make it much more simple than that. And lastly, we have everyone's favorite, the peptides to stack it with. These are some that I put together that you could potentially use Obviously, Solanke is the most popular one. So this combines for anxiety reduction and cognitive benefits. You think it's like the C-Max is like, the boom, like turn your brain into a super computer and the Solank is, is reduction of the anxiety. They kind of like balance out together. She gets really like calm, focused, driven, feel good effect.

Um, but alongside those, I really liked alpha GPC. I take that quite a bit, especially on fasting days. Uh, new PEPT is another one, you know, New Peps kind like eh, if I'm just doing like a peptide stack of neutral, which you could throw a new pep in there. I love lion's mane mushrooms. I take lions mane mushroom every day You know what's weird is I've heard like people report the craziest things with lion manes mushroom I'm talking like saying like that it like made them absolutely insane They have like severe anxiety and crippling depression stuff, but for me like I just feel amazing

on lions maned mushroom now that being said I Should probably make a whole video of this but make sure you get 100% lion mains extract and not lions main that is grown on What is it? basically like grown on oats or like something. So like a lot of lion's mane is like growing on spores of grain. And then you get the extra, you give that as the extract and it's like 80% oat and then like 20% lions mane. I get mine from a company called Real Mushrooms and I don't have an affiliate code or anything like that for them, but they're like 100% pure lions' mane extract. Actually, I noticed the difference is way, way better.

It's way cleaner way smoother than most lions main that you would just buy from, your whole foods or whatever grocery store you got it from. Obviously Omega-3 fatty acids, everyone should be taking that point blank period. Then you can throw in some Bacopa mineria, this is for memory and learning support. As always, my favorite, Acetyl L-Carnitine, that would be the oral form, so Acetyl L Carnitin, if you're gonna take L carnitene orally, I like the Aceto L carnetine version, supports energy and cognitive function. And then Ginkgo biloba improves blood flow and cognative health to the brain.

So if take all of those right there, You're looking at like a pretty good day, in my opinion. You look at it like, a focused, well-driven day in conjunction with hormonal optimization, you're going to feel amazing. And most of those, You don't have to inject. you could take all of Those pretty much orally, with the exception of saline and nupept, would have To take those injected or intranasally if you wanted to. But that's pretty Much it. So that is all the slides. And that is everything you need to know about CMAX.

So hopefully that was helpful. These are pretty straightforward. You know, just start off if you want like a little bit of an edge in terms of your cognitive focus. You know, as someone that makes a lot of content, I'm not going to say like I use these all the time, but if you are someone needs like that extra bit of brain power to create, to think, do stuff, these can be pretty powerful. And what I like about them is they're not like a stimulant in the sense of like, you know like caffeine or any other sort of, like stimulants that just get you amped up and then it's like. like it feels good on the come up and then like the rest of it, you're just trying to come down.

So I like that, as opposed to like all these other crazy things like Adderall or whatever people are out there taking, which I would absolutely like recommend that you don't, don' That being said, this is everything you need to know about CMAX now. I will say if you have questions, comments, concerns, as long as the comments are on and you can ask them below, please do so because so far it's been good for the last few weeks, but they do tend to shut off my comments and whatnot. So just make sure if your questions or comments or concerns drop those comments below and then also you could always email me.

or whatever for the people that are diligent enough to find that you know how to get in touch with me. So that's all I got for this one, guys. Thank you so much and I will talk to you next one. Peace.
