HGH for Fat Loss - My Research Protocol and Experience

2026-03-29 · 15:57 · 4 min read

This is my anecdotal experience with human growth hormone, specifically how I use it for fat loss and anti-aging. Strictly research and educational purposes. Not medical advice, not legal advice, and not something I'm telling you to do. Just a behind-the-scenes look at how I run it for myself.

What HGH Actually Is

HGH is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth, cell production, and regeneration. Your body produces it naturally from the pituitary gland. Production is influenced by sleep, nutrition, stress, and exercise.

Synthetic HGH first hit the medical world in the 1980s. It was originally developed for growth hormone deficiencies in kids and adults, plus muscle wasting from HIV and AIDS. It's made through recombinant DNA technology, which is why you'll see it called recombinant human growth hormone or rHGH.

In my experience, most aging adults are dealing with some level of deficiency. The word "deficiency" is up for debate, but the trend is real.

How HGH Drives Fat Loss

When you elevate growth hormone in the body, it stimulates lipolysis. That's the breakdown of fats into glycerol and free fatty acids. It also increases muscle mass, and muscle is thermogenic, so you burn more calories at rest.

HGH enhances protein synthesis. It increases calcium retention and bone mineralization, which matters a lot as we age, especially for women.

One of the bigger mechanisms people miss is that HGH enhances the conversion of T4 to T3. Better T4 to T3 conversion means a faster metabolism and more fat loss. That's part of why HGH is so potent.

Think of it like a hybrid car. Metabolic flexibility is your ability to switch between burning glucose and burning fat for fuel. Growth hormone helps you make that switch more easily, so your body actually uses fat when it should.

The Other Benefits

Outside of fat loss, here's what I've noticed and what the research supports.

Better sleep. Hands down the best sleep I've ever had has been on HGH.

Improved skin quality and texture. That's why a lot of celebrities use it.

Faster fracture healing and stronger collagen synthesis in muscles and tendons. Better mood and cognition in deficient individuals. Improved heart function in deficient individuals. Better cholesterol management.

Those are pillars of good health. Nobody in their right mind says they don't want better sleep, better skin, more muscle, and more fat loss.

The Side Effects (Dose Matters)

The difference between a pill and a poison is the dose. Bodybuilder-level doses are where the problems show up.

Too much HGH can cause:

  • Joint, muscle, or nerve pain from fluid retention
  • Edema (swelling)
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (very common in the bodybuilder world)
  • Insulin resistance, which could lead to type 2 diabetes
  • Potential cardiovascular risk from cardiac tissue growth (one theory on why bodybuilders die young)
  • Abnormal bone growth at high doses
  • Headaches, nausea, or dizziness during the adjustment phase

Most of those headache and nausea symptoms in my experience are fluid retention or your body going through cellular remodeling as metabolism upregulates.

The cancer question gets thrown around a lot. I'd debate it, but I'm including it because people ask.

My Research Protocol

If fat loss and anti-aging are the goals, here's what I'd do.

Start: 0.3 mg (about 1 IU), fasted in the morning, no food for at least 90 minutes after.

Schedule: Five days on, two days off.

Best timing: Before fasted cardio. In my years of use, this is where the magic happens. Same cardio output, more fat burned through enhanced lipolysis.

If the response is good and you don't see elevated blood sugar or fluid retention, bump up to 1.35 IU (0.45 mg).

To crank up fat loss: 0.3 mg / 1 IU fasted in the morning AND 1 IU before bed, again with no food for 90 minutes.

For advanced dieters running two cardio sessions, take the second dose before the second cardio session instead of at night.

Inject subcutaneously into the belly fat, like most peptides.

Why I Don't Go Above 2 IU

For men and women I've coached, and in my own experience, 1 to 2 IU per day is the sweet spot for fat loss and anti-aging. I see no additional benefit going higher unless you're a competing bodybuilder.

Here's the logic. A healthy 25 to 30-year-old man produces around 1 to 2 IU of growth hormone per day naturally. If we're using HGH as part of hormone optimization (alongside testosterone, estrogen, progesterone), replacing what your body used to make on its own makes sense.

When you were 25, your organs weren't growing out of control. You didn't have diabetes or edema or increased cancer risk. So replacing what the body once produced naturally shouldn't carry those risks either. The problems show up at supraphysiological bodybuilder doses.

Cycling Options

You can run HGH year-round at five on, two off. Or you can cycle 8 weeks of HGH followed by 8 weeks of ipamorelin or tesamorelin.

I've done both. I default to HGH being better, but there's something to be said for cycling off and using a growth hormone-releasing peptide in between. We don't fully know yet whether endogenous production is better than exogenous in the long run, or if it matters at all. That's something I'm still digging into.

My Take

Human growth hormone is one of the best anti-aging tools available right now. Fat loss is one of the biggest levers we have against aging in the first world, and HGH hits multiple mechanisms at once: lipolysis, muscle gain, thyroid conversion, bone density, sleep, recovery.

At replacement-level doses of 1 to 2 IU per day, you're putting your body back where it used to be. That's my protocol, that's what I run, and the results have been consistent for years. Beyond 2 IU you're stepping into bodybuilder territory and that's a different conversation with different risks.

Hey everybody, this is Hunter Williams. I hope you were doing amazing wherever you are at in the world. Today's video is going to be about human growth hormone for fat loss. And I'm going give you a research protocol. So basically what I am doing is just giving my own anecdotal experience with human-growth hormone, especially as it relates to fat-loss. What I wanted to do today is present to you how exogenous human group hormone works in a body to create fatl loss and also give my insider protocol on what do for myself to optimize fat loss with human growth hormones.

So again, this is strictly for research purposes only. This is not medical advice. It's definitely not legal advice, This not even, you know, anything that I would recommend for anyone else to do. so it's just my own experience for educational and entertainment purposes, only as they say, but hopefully in doing so you can kind of learn just behind the scenes on how I operate and obviously to check out my books and our private community. that I have with Jay Campbell, if you want the real insider scoop on what human growth hormone does for the body as it relates to just practical application.

But by the end of this video, it's my intent for you to be able to kind of understand the context of human-growth hormone, how it works for body, and how to create fat loss, then how we can use that to maximize fat-loss, especially as we're aging and especially with the environment now because there's so much stuff. in our environment, whether it's the hyper palatable food that's sprayed with pesticides and everything, or it just sedentary lifestyles or whatever it is. So I truly believe that human growth hormone is one of the best anti-aging interventions that we have available today.

And just my own research and my experience that has rang true for the years that I have used it. Before I do that, what I always recommend to everyone is if you're interested in peptides and all this great stuff, check out the peptide cheat sheet in the description below. and download that and that'll teach you everything you need to know about peptides on one sheet and then obviously too it'll sign you up for my email list because some of the topics like this one that I talk about are very sensor worthy I guess would be the best word for it. So that's the way to stay in touch with me and I do my best to provide informational and educational material over the email lists and not spam you with

a bunch of stuff. What I am going to do next is share my screen and today we're going talk human growth hormone for that loss. Alright, so this is going to be my HGH for fat loss research protocol. So what is HTH? So basically it is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth, cell production and regeneration in humans and animals. And this hormone's production is influenced by factors such as stress, nutrition, sleep, and physical exercise.

Now, as far as exogenous synthetic HGH that was first used medicinally in the 1980s in medical world, it was originally developed for treating growth hormone deficiencies in children and adults. What I have come to find in my own experience is that most aging adults are going to be dealing with a deficiency. So kind of deficiency is the term that is up for debate here. It's also used for clinical conditions such as muscle wasting that's associated with HIV and AIDS. It obviously plays a critical role in human development and overall health. Every single human on the planet right now walking around has some growth hormone in them and some production of growth from their pituitary gland.

Its production is partly controlled by growth hormones releasing hormone from the hypothalamus. And stress and low blood sugar levels can also stimulate its release, which is why typically when you're fasting, you are going to produce more growth hormone. It's synthetically produced through recombinant DNA technology for medical use. So typically you will hear the growth hormones that people use today as recumbent human growth hormonal or HGH. You might see it abbreviated as So what are the mechanisms for growth hormone for fat loss? Cause everyone knows like, Oh, growth hormones, this miracle cure and everything like that. Uh, but how does it actually work?

Like, what does do for that loss. And that was, you know, a question before I started that I was always curious to myself, like. Okay. Like bodybuilders use it, then celebrities use. So like what is causing like all these benefits and then specifically what. creating fat loss. So basically when we elevate levels of growth hormone in the body, it stimulates lipolysis which is the breakdown of fats into glycerol and free fatty acids. In turn, this increases muscle mass which can help in burning more calories and fat.

This enhances protein synthesis and muscle growth. It also increases calcium retention and strengthens and increases the mineralization of bone. just side note one thing I always get asked is what can I use to help increase bone density because as obviously we age especially in women but men and women bone Density goes down so growth hormones obviously you know and a very you intervention agent to do that. So it promotes the growth of all internal organs, excluding the brain, which again, that's going to get into dosing that we're going talk about later.

You know, like, does that mean that if you use growth hormone that you're gonna make all your organs grow? So, uh, it plays a role in homeostasis, helping maintain blood glucose for brain function, stimulates the immune system, and it enhances the conversion of thyroid hormone T4 to T3. So what we know that when we are better able to convert T4 to T3, that's going to help with fat loss. So growth hormone helps increase the conversion of T 4 to 3, which is why it's so potent as a fat-loss agent. And it generally promotes the metabolic functions that are crucial for fat lost.

Kind of think about it like this. One, it is going enhance muscle mass on the body. Well, the more muscle we have, muscle is thermogenic, meaning that it burns fat. It's going to help with the conversion of T4 to T3, which is going help our metabolism to burn fat. It is gonna help calcium retention and bone mineral density which again are going be stronger and burn fats. Is going with homeostasis in the body. At the right level is helping maintain healthy blood glucose levels and brain function. So again the immune system to growth hormone.

Swiss army knife, but when we look at it in the context of fat loss, it's kind of like all these processes synergistically come together. That's going to help the body be in an optimal state to burn calories and have a, you know, high metabolism, so to speak. So what are the benefits of using HGH for fat law? So obviously going reduce body fat through increased metabolism and fat utilization, meaning that our body is able to use fat for fuel. Obviously something that Jay and I talk about all the time is metabolic flexibility. Can we switch between burning glucose and burning fats for fuel so growth hormone in the body is going to help us switch Between that glucose burning state

to that fat burning State and the better we're able to switch those fuel states think about like a Toyota Prius or a hybrid car it can go between gas and electric and a better you're Able to go to the more metabolically flexible or easier it will be to drive down the road right because you can put gas in it then you Can switch to electric But if you can only use gas or you could only us electric, you're kind of confined to one certain thing. So it's probably not the best analogy, but just what came to my mind offhand. But growth hormone also increases muscle strength by stimulating collagen synthesis in the muscles and tendons.

It speeds up fracture healing by enhancing bone regeneration. Helps in substantial weight loss by promoting persistent lipolysis. It also is going to improve mood and possibly cognitive function in deficient individuals. Um, it enhances physical capacity of muscle mass and adults with HGH deficiency. Uh, It can prove heart function and deficien individuals that may improve skin quality and texture. That's why a lot of celebrities use it, uh, by enhancing protein synthesis. It's also an aid in sleep quality. I can have tested that firsthand. Like the sleep I get when using human growth hormone is absolutely bar none the best.

And it supports better management of cholesterol levels. So when we look at all those things, obviously, I don't think anyone in the right mind would say I Don't want any of that. Those are all pretty much like the pillars of good health that we have all the things we Have sleep if we Uh, you know, increased metabolism at that isolation. Those are all amazing things. And, uh, the trick with growth hormone is the difference between a pill and a poison that is a dose. So that doesn't mean that you go take, bodybuilder levels of growth from on this program on unwanted side effects.

What are the side effects? So if we have too much growth hormone, it can cause joint muscle or nerve pain due to increased fluid retention and tissue growth, which this also is known as edema which is swelling caused by fluid retension. There's also the increase is very common in the bodybuilder community there's increased risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. There's increased risk of insulin resistance if we use too much, which could potentially lead to diabetes. There is the potential for the elevation of risk for cancer. I would debate that, but I just want to throw that out there because that's a very common question.

It can also contribute to cardiovascular disease risk in some cases a lot of time, because the thought is if you take too many growth hormones, it's going to increase the size of your heart, one of the reasons it's speculated that bodybuilders die so early. Also abnormal growth of bones, which I have not seen, again, difference between the pill and the poison of a dose. Like I said, type 2 diabetes, and some people may have headaches, nausea, or dizziness. Typically, in my experience, that's either like a fluid retention thing or they're just going through a cellular remodeling process where their body is

actually like up regulating metabolism and can you kind of go through this adjustment phase that can cause some of that. So what is my protocol? So this is like the, you know, the age old question. If fat loss and anti-aging are my goal, what does the protocol. What I would do is start with 0.3 milligrams or 0 .9 IU or one IU, basically for all intents and purposes, one IU. And what I would do is take that fasted in the morning and I wouldn't have no food for at least 90 minutes. And I have noticed in my years of use is that ideally you take it before fast at cardio and it really enhances that lipolysis that happens during that

facet cardio. Meaning that I can do the same amount of cardio, um, exercise and expenditure in terms of my output, but I burn more fat through that. So, uh, that is what would start off with. If I had a newbie, never use growth hormone, they want to get on the growth, hormone train. That's what I would do. I'd do five days on, two days off. And if the response is good and you don't have any of those symptoms that we talked about, you have increased blood sugar levels, increased fluid retention or anything like that, I will go up another half an IU to 1.35 IU's or 0.45 milligrams.

So obviously the dosing, depending on where you get your growth hormone from and everything is different, some are in IU, and some in milligrams, so I'm giving you both. And then what I would do if you really want to crank up the fat loss is I will go to 0.3 milligrams or one IU fasted in the morning and fast it before bed with no food for at least 90 minutes. So for men and women that I've coached, in my own experience, one to two IU seems to be the sweet spot for fat-loss and anti-aging. I see no additional benefit in going over to IU per day for those reasons.

Now, if I have a bodybuilder or someone that's competing, obviously there's a use case to go above two But for someone that just wants to live long, live strong, and live lean, be healthy, have all their biomarkers in line and everything, I think one to IU for men and women is the sweet spot. Some people may be a little bit more or a bit less depending on their certain situations. And I don't see that. So here's the reason. On average, a healthy 25 to 30-year-old man is going to produce around one or two IUs of growth hormone per day, depending their overall health and genetic predisposition.

So when we look at replacing growth hormone use, again, hormone optimization therapy, it can include testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone, but in my case, I would argue that growth hormones could be part of hormonal optimization. When we'd look the amount that the healthy human is doing, It's going to be somewhere between one to two IUs. Some people lower, some people higher, but that's like on average. So when we're doing that amount, again, I go back to all those side effects. Are we getting the side effect if we were just supplementing with the amount that the body naturally produces?

And for most healthy men at a healthy age, like at younger age of adulthood, it's gonna be one to two IUs per day. If we are replacing that dose, is an amount of growth hormone in the the that we one time had dangerous to us? Well, of course not, because when we were 25 or 30 years old, our organs weren't growing. We didn't have diabetes if we are living healthy. Uh, we didn' have water retention and edema and, uh, you know, increased risk of cancer or anything like that. Of course, not. But for whatever reason, people go to a replacement growth, a, replacement dose of growth hormone and say, Oh, this is so dangerous and whatever.

And it's all is doing is putting levels where they were in the body. So again, This is experimental. I can't tell you whether or not it is going to be, You know deleterious in the long run or not, but I do know that when we look at what the body naturally produces and then we Look at replacing with exogenous use I don't see any benefit of going over to IU per day And again that kind of puts us back in those levels that we would be at now This is a whole different discussion for different video of like trying to test your levels to see where they're at and I think it's very hard and you're kind of chasing a wild goose chase to try to chase IGF or even growth hormone levels themselves,

but I will lean on the benefits that I receive. I know I burn way more fat. My body structure has changed. Uh, I feel better cognitively when I'm looking at using growth hormones versus not using them. So the next thing I'll say is for advanced dieters. I would take the second dose So if I was doing two per day, I'd take a second does before my second cardio session So that's what I do with that and in doing so again I think you're gonna stimulate a little bit more fat burning in that second Cardio session if you take it then you could do it at night

before bed but then what's I Would do is just subcutaneously into the belly fat as with all peptides or most peptide and then What you can do is you use this year round, five days on, two days off, or you could use growth hormone for eight weeks, then you cycle between an epimerelin or testimerelin, eight-weeks. I've done both. You know, I have done growth hormones for extended periods of time, and then I cycle in between. And you know I like, always default to growth on being better obviously, but I think there's something to be said to cycling off of it and even using like

a peptide in-between. Just because I think at this point, we don't know what types of growth hormone in the body, whether the natural production is better or whether exogenous is the better. If it matters for your age or anything like that, that's something I'm going to be looking into more. But I thing there's some to said between cycling on and cycling off and going between peptides. So who knows at the end of the day, but that would be my personal dosage and protocol. Hopefully that is helpful to you guys now. That is all of the slides and that is my personal take on how to use HEH for fat loss and really anti-aging purposes because we look at aging in the first

world today. Fat loss is going to be one of biggest things we can do to prevent aging and keeping fat of our body is what's going stem the tide of most aging that we experience. That is my protocol for human growth hormone. If you feel like I left anything out, definitely, like, I always say, leave questions, comments, concerns below, and let me know your thoughts. And let know if this is helpful to you guys. Again, it's really hard for me to be able to respond to the overwhelming number of comments I'm getting right now. But what I am going to do and will be doing is taking all those questions and comments and putting them into Q&A videos.

to help people answer or help, people have their questions answered regarding these. So hopefully that was helpful to you guys. Don't forget to sign up for the peptide cheat sheet down below and check out all the links down there. And thank you, guys, so much for amazing support. Love you. I appreciate you and I will see you in the next one. Peace.
