Why Humanin Could Be the Next Big Peptide For Longevity
After talking to people at the recent Mr. Olympia Expo, I'm convinced humanin is going to be one of the next big peptides on the scene. It sits in the same family as MOTS-c and SS-31, but it has its own lane. Here's a full breakdown of what it does, how to dose it, and what to stack it with.
What Humanin Actually Is
Humanin is a mitochondrial-derived peptide first discovered in 2001 in the brain of an Alzheimer's patient. It was initially noted for its neuroprotective effects, especially around amyloid beta toxicity.
Here's what makes it different. Most peptides are encoded by nuclear DNA. Humanin is encoded by the mitochondrial genome itself. That matters because the mitochondria are the energy powerhouse of the cell, and peptides they produce can have a real impact on cellular health.
Humanin levels are naturally higher in younger people and decline with age. That alone tells you something about its role in the aging process.
It's also been found in heart, liver, and muscle tissue, so the protective effects are systemic, not just brain-focused.
How It Works in the Body
Humanin hits multiple pathways at once.
It inhibits apoptosis (cell death) by interacting with pro-apoptotic proteins like BAX and BIM. It reduces oxidative stress by improving mitochondrial efficiency and boosting antioxidant defenses. It maintains mitochondrial integrity and supports energy production.
It also improves insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, which matters more than most people realize for long-term health.
On the brain side, it protects neurons from amyloid beta toxicity. If you've had family affected by Alzheimer's like I have, or if you've had head trauma, this is worth paying attention to. Amyloid beta plaques are one of the main drivers of Alzheimer's pathology.
It also has anti-inflammatory effects and protects heart tissue from ischemic injury.
The Benefits
Neuroprotection. This is where humanin really shines compared to SS-31 or MOTS-c. It may help slow the progression of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's.
Metabolic health. Better insulin sensitivity, protection against diet-induced obesity, improved glucose levels.
Cardiovascular protection. Research shows it can protect heart cells from ischemic injury and reduce heart attack risk.
Anti-aging. This is the big one. Mitochondrial protection plus reduced oxidative stress puts humanin squarely in longevity territory.
Side Effects
Pretty much nil. Of all the mitochondrial peptides, I'm least concerned about side effects with humanin. You might get a small red spot or some pain at the injection site. That's about it. No flushing, nothing dramatic.
We don't have decades of long-term human data, but the existing studies show a strong safety profile.
What the Studies Say
A 2003 paper in Nature showed humanin protects neurons from amyloid beta toxicity.
A 2010 study in Cell Metabolism showed it improves insulin sensitivity and reduces diabetes and obesity risk.
A 2016 study in Circulation found that humanin administration protected the heart from ischemic injury in a rodent model.
So unlike a lot of popular peptides, there's actual published research backing this one up.
How to Dose It
Most research has used 2 to 10 mg ranges, given subcutaneously or intramuscularly. I'd go subq.
My recommendation. 1 mg subq, three times per week.
If you have chronic disease, severe inflammation, or significant obesity, bump it up to 5 mg three times per week.
It typically comes in a 10 mg vial. Add 1 ml of bacteriostatic water. 10 units on an insulin syringe equals 1 mg. Easy.
Stacks That Make Sense
SS-31. Another mitochondrial peptide with strong antioxidant properties. Stacking these two improves energy production and protects against age-related cellular decline.
BPC-157. Humanin reduces oxidative damage. BPC-157 drives tissue regeneration. Together they create a strong recovery and gut-health environment.
Thymosin Alpha-1. An immune modulator. Combined with humanin, you get a stack that supports both mitochondrial health and the immune system. Useful if you're immunocompromised.
MOTS-c. Yes, you can run all three mitochondrial peptides together. Think of it this way. MOTS-c leans metabolism. SS-31 leans cellular energy. Humanin leans brain protection. They overlap, but each has a strength.
Epitalon. Especially valuable if you're over 45. Humanin handles mitochondria, epitalon handles DNA repair and telomere preservation. Strong anti-aging combo.
Carnosine. A dipeptide that prevents the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which are major drivers of aging and chronic disease.
Tirzepatide or Retatrutide. A GLP-1 stacked with a mitochondrial peptide is one plus one equals five. Throw in BPC, thymosin, epitalon, and carnosine, and you'll likely notice a real shift in energy.
My Take
Humanin is going to make the rounds in the next 12 to 18 months. The research is there, the safety profile is clean, and the mechanisms are exactly what you want for long-term health.
Here's the thing about mitochondrial peptides. The healthier you already are, the less dramatic the felt effects. But that doesn't mean they aren't working. With humanin, what you're doing is helping your cells remodel and reversing some of the aging happening inside them.
Peptides like this aren't always about feeling jacked or ripped or sharp. Sometimes they're about cellular health and integrity for the long haul. As our environment gets more toxic, this stuff matters more, not less. Humanin is one of the tools I think more people will be using soon, and for good reason.

Hey everybody. This is Hunter Williams. I hope you're doing amazing wherever you are in the world. Today's video is going to be all about human in, which is a mitochondrial health peptide. So this is like some of the other mitochondria peptides, one of these lesser known and lesser popular, but it's, Very powerful. And after talking to some people at the recent Mr. Olympia Expo, I'm pretty convinced this is going to be one of the next big peptides out there as more and more people start to get their hands on it and as people do research on their lab rats, so to speak. So what I am going do today is just provide an overall comprehensive overview of human.
And there's actually studies around this and humans, um, unlike some other peptides that are even really popular. So, uh, that's pretty cool. We'll go over those today, but basically it's just going to be an overview. Um, what is human and what it does, how it works in the body, some of the benefits side effects. Obviously the dosage. And as always, if you stick around to the end of these videos, I'm going to have some other peptides you can stack it with and explain those. So, pretty straightforward today, but I do think probably in the next like 12 to 18 months, this one will be making the rounds, so to speak.

Hunter Williams, and this is a video review and guide to human, which I believe is the next big peptide for mitochondrial health. Let's jump into it. What is human? So is basically a mitochondria derived peptides that was actually first discovered in 2001, um, within the brain of an Alzheimer's disease patient.
It was initially noted. for its neuroprotective properties around the brain, particularly in protecting neurons from amyloid beta toxicity, which is often associated with Alzheimer's disease pathology. Unlike many other peptides which are included or encoded by nuclear DNA, human is actually encode by the mitochondrial genome, hence why it is a mitochondria peptide. So this is significant because the Mitochondria are energy powerhouse of the cell and the peptidize they produce can have profound effects on cellular health and overall bodily function.
So as a cytoprotective agent, it has generated significant interest in the fields of neurodegenerative disease, Um, metabolic health and aging research. So human levels, um, actually because of some dodges to the body or naturally higher and younger individuals, but as sadly with many things, uh, they tend to decline as we age, suggesting that a potential role in the aging process and age related diseases, could be used as a peptide there therapeutically.
But in addition to its neuroprotective effects, it's been found in other tissues, including the heart, liver and muscles indicating that may have systemic protective effects. So its ability to basically modulate oxidative distress, apoptosis, which is cell death and inflammation make it promising as a therapeutic agent for a wide range of functions, include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and even C word prevention. You can read the screen if you want to know what I'm talking about there. Got to keep the channel in compliance, right? Uh, now let's look at the mechanisms in the body.
So, uh, first it inhibits apoptosis. What does that mean? So human and prevents cell death by inhibiting apop tosis and interacting with pro a Poptotic proteins like backs and BIM. Um, just know that it prohibits cell depth, um, which sometimes you want. Sometimes you don't want, we can, you know, talk of talk about that. But overall speaking in this case, it's a good thing. So we also have the reduction of oxidative stress. A human reduces oxidant stress by improving mitochondrial efficiency and enhancing antioxidants defenses in the body.
It also improves mitochondria function. Like I mentioned, so it maintains basically the mitochondrion integrity inside the cell. enhances energy production and protects against dysfunction. Also too, like I've discussed before, as it relates to aging insulin sensitivity, so human improves insulin, sensitivity and glucose metabolism for better metabolic health. We also have neuro protection against amyloid toxicity. So human protects neurons from amylated beta toxicity and supports cognitive function. And basically for anyone that's familiar with Alzheimer's, I have had family members affected by this.
I've had a lot of head trauma. So I'm also done researching this myself, just my own good. Basically with Alzheimer's, you have to build up these amyloid beta plaques that cause issues in the brain that are not good long-term. It also modulates inflammatory responses, so it has anti-inflammatory properties that help maintain tissue integrity and function and suppress inflammation in body. Also again, another win in column of aging. It's cardio protective, so it protects heart tissues from ischemic injury, reducing heart damage during events like heart attacks. And like I said, potential role in C-word prevention.
So human may play a role and C word prevention by protecting healthy cells and affecting C cells susceptibility to treatments. Very cool in that sense. Now let's look at the benefits. Obviously when it's doing all that stuff, that's going to be massively beneficial to the body. Um, but first we have neuroprotection. So I think this is where it shines, especially relative to something like SS 31 or mod C. Um it's been shown to protect brain cells from damage, uh, potentially preventing or slowing the progression of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's,
Parkinson's and Huntington's disease. Then we had metabolic health, which is kind of one in the same as we look at uh, neurodegenerative disease, but human and enhances insulin sensitivity and protects against diet, reduce obesity. And it also may help in reducing glucose levels and improving metabolic health. We also have cardiovascular protection. So research suggests that human can protect heart cells from ischemic injury. Like I said, reducing the risk of heart, heart attacks. And then also the golden goose, so to speak, is the anti-aging property. So given its role in protecting mitochondria and reducing oxidative stress, it is also considered a key player in longevity research.
As our levels naturally decline with age, supplementation or increasing our own natural production of the body could theoretically, and I think practically, help combat age-related diseases. What are the side effects? Relatively nil. This is one of those ones. All things considered, I would be least concerned or more or less very non-concerned with some of the effects of mitochondrial derived peptides, but human is considered generally safe based on the studies.
The side effects have not been reported because we don't have a ton of long-term research. Obviously with any peptides, you might get a little red spot or rashy area, or you may have little pain around the injection when you inject subcutaneously into the belly fat. So again, that's really about it. You don' really necessarily get like a flushing or anything that I've noticed myself. Just looking at some published studies. A study in Nature in 2003 found that humanin could protect neurons from amyloid beta toxicity, which again goes back to reducing the onset of Alzheimer's.
So if that's something that quote unquote runs in your family, you know, be on the lookout for that. 2010 in cell metabolism showed that huminin enhances insulin sensitivity and reduces the risk of diabetes and obesity. And lastly, 2016 study and circulation found the human administration could detect the heart from ischemic injury injury in a rodent model. So definitely some research there. As everyone's favorite, the simple but most anticipated part is the dosage. The dosages of Humidem have primarily been studied in preclinical trials.
In research settings, it's been administered sub-q or intramuscularly. I would recommend subq. Doses range from two to 10 milligrams. My recommendation personally would be a one milligram sub q injection three times per week. Then if you have more chronic disease or severe inflammation, obesity or something like that I would probably go up to five milligrams three times a week so typically come in a 10 milligram bottle, I would put one ml of water into that. And to get one milligram, i would do 10 units of that, and then you would that three times a week. So very easy.
I even gave you a little hint there as to how to start and use it. Lastly, summing up, we've got the peptide stack. It's diverse protective effects make it an excellent cannon for stacking with other peptides who enhance its benefits and target multiple pathways simultaneously. Below are some peptids that can synergize well with humans. i do have SS31, so this is another mitochondrial targeted peptide with powerful antioxidant properties. So like human and it helped preserve mitochondrial function, reduce oxidative stress and prevent cell death. When we combine human with SS 31, it's going to enhance mitochondria health.
which makes it particularly effective for improving energy production and protecting against age-related cell decline. Also, too, it's very, very impactful for neurodegenerative disease. Next one, BPC-157. Don't really have to say much there. Overall, its ability, huminin's ability to prevent oxidative damage and BTC-137's tissue regeneration effects create a synergistic environment for rapid recovery from injury, also for improve gut health, which is very powerful in reducing inflammation. Thymus Alpha-1, so this is an immune modulating peptide that helps regulate immune responses, making it useful in autoimmune diseases and infections.
So when we combine human with Thimus and Alpha 1, it can provide a powerful immune protective stack, especially if you're immunocompromised, which enhances mitochondrial health and our immune system. We also have MAT-C, the other mitochondrial peptide, and yes, you could use all of these SS31-MAT-c and humanin together. But MATC is closely related to human in terms of its effects on metabolic health and longevity. So MATc is more in term of metabolism. It improves insulin sensitivity, it supports mitochondria function, making an excellent companion to huminin.
So when we have like matzi SS 31 and human in, I probably should do a video on this. I think Matzi is like more metabolism SS or 31 is more like cellular energy. And then human and more is brain protection. They all kind of do the same thing, but like there's one, if there was one for each of those things, it would be that. So, um, we also have epitalon. Don't talk about this a lot, this is very powerful peptide. Especially someone over the age of like 45 would get a little benefit from. So when we combine human with epitalon, it can amplify longevity benefits by targeting mitochondrial health and cellular aging.
So while human and protects mitochondria from oxidative damage and maintains their function. Epitalin works at the level of DNA repair and telomere preservation, offering a powerful anti-aging stack. And then also lastly, carnosine. This is a dipeptide. that is a potent antioxidant anti-glycation agent. So it's stacked with human and I've talked about carnosine before on some other videos. It can reduce oxidative damage and ultimately, this is why I put this in here, prevent the formation of advanced glycation end products, also known as AGEs, which contribute to aging and chronic disease.
And then lastly, you know I had to throw it in there. TERS or RETA. So Ters or Reta, when combined with human, can enhance glucose regulation, insulin sensitivity, and mitochondrial health all at the same time. Uh, so it's a powerful stack for metabolic optimization, weight management. I won't go too deep into that, but I think when you have mitochondria peptide with a GOP one, it like one plus one equals five, not even one-plus-one equals three, one one equal five. Throw in some BPC, some Thymacin from epitalon and some carnosine and you will be off to the races.
and you will probably notice a massive uptake in energy if that's something that you struggle with. So that is it for the slides. And that my best synopsis of human in the mitochondrial peptide. I really do think this one's going to be a game changer. You know, the thing with mitochondria peptides is the healthier you are, probably the less you won't notice some sort of effect, so to speak. But I, I firmly believe they help equally to someone that has optimized as much as they helped someone who is inflamed. A lot of times that's because, say you're doing everything right.
You're hormonally optimized, you are exercising, your training, or dieting. When we introduce these, if your mitochondria are working good, that is great. But what we're going to do is help kind of like cellular remodel and actually hopefully reverse the aging that happening inside the cell. So it seems to be that more and more, the more optimized someone is the less and less they notice effects from something, but you know, something is there. And whether that's with MOTC, I think that that is probably more the case with the MotC but definitely SS31. Like I've usually heard, regardless of whether they're super healthy or not healthy at all, people usually feel effects with SS 31. They can't always put
their finger on it, they definitely feel an effect. I mean, human is very much the same. Especially if you look at neurodegeneration. We know not a lot now that that has to do with something related to like basically type three diabetes, uh, which means that like something to insulin signal signaling is affecting the brain. And that's what's causing this inflammation of the brand that eventually causes neurodegenerative disease. I think when we look at mitochondrial health and integrity, we can use these peptides to stave off aging. Sometimes it's not about a peptide to feel jacked or ripped or like a supercomputer in your brain or what have you, but it's really more about cellular
health and integrity and for the long haul. And I think as the environment becomes increasingly more and more toxic, it is on us to be able to understand peptides like this and to harness their power because they can reduce a lot of the oxidative stress and age-related disease that we don't really have an option that is there. Uh, you know, we have an option, whether we eat junk food or not, but we don't have any option. If like the air is toxic or there's like toxic water everywhere, even if we filter it. So, um, I think that's why it's very crucial that we understand these peptides and understand like how they're going to fit in to the future of humanity.
